Happy with my purchase

Reviewed on June 18, 2024.

I heard about this item a while back and was very excited to see Josh's Frogs was carrying it. I've owned it for a few months and I've made notes on how it's working for me. PROS: - Helps organize each life stage of mealworm - Easy to clean - Smooth material is impossible for beetles to climb - Takes up little space - Zero smell when covered CONS: - Once the pupa turn into beetles, they struggle to crawl to the bottom level of the beetle tray. You need to move most of them yourself. - There are large divots on the bottom of the beetle tray that are just big enough for a beetle to fall into, roll on it's back, and get stuck. I've had to remove corpses. I recently put aluminum tape over the divots and that seems to be fixing the issue. - Lids are warped due to the tight packaging and don't fit snugly. They need to be bent and held for a period of time to get them straight again. *NOTE: All of the cons are producer issues and have nothing to do with Josh's Frogs.* Overall, this is a great item. Constantly having a steady supply of different sized mealworms and pupa make this item completely worth the money in my opinion. There's some minor annoyances that can be fixed with little effort, and you do definitely have to keep up with maintenance to really see a colony thrive. This is not a "set it and forget it" type of item, though it's not really marketed as such. Be prepared to move pupa and beetles, bin dead insects and molts, and to deal with the mealworm smell when you remove the lid. If you're comfortable with all that, this will be a great purchase! 4 stars for the warping and design flaws.
