About This Product

This is a “Grower's Choice” plant, which means our Plant Team will choose one Scindapsus pictus variety or cultivar that's available. Plants may differ in color and appearance from the plant pictured.

Scientific Name: Scindapsus pictus

Common Name(s): Satin Pothos, Silver Pothos, Silk Pothos, or Silver Vine

Defining Characteristics:

  • Leaves are distinctly marked with splashes, spots, or bands of silvery-gray, giving the leaves a reflective, metallic or "painted" appearance
  • Scindapsus leaves have a unique, soft, almost suede-like or velvety texture
  • Grows as a trailing vine or a climber. When given a moss pole or trellis to climb, the plant will produce larger leaves that shingle against the surface.

Recommended Pot Size: Small - Medium

Josh’s Frogs offers a wide variety of supplies for all of your indoor gardening needs.

Temperature Requirement (°F): 65-85°

Humidity: 40 to 60%

Watering Frequency: Water thoroughly only when the top 2 to 3 inches of soil are completely dry, or when 50-75 of the total soil volume is dry. Always allow water to drain completely to avoid root rot

Lighting: Bright Indirect Light

Soil Type: Chunky, well-draining aroid soil mix like Josh's Frogs Chunky Houseplant Soil

Growth Rate: Moderate

Height at Maturity: If left to drape downwards, the vines usually grow to about 3 to 4 feet long. When guided upward, the plant’s aerial roots grip the support, encouraging the vines to grow much longer (typically 6 to 10 feet indoors) and develop larger, more mature leaves.

Origin: Southeast Asia. Its native habitat spans Bangladesh, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and the Philippines.

Regional Locality: the understory of dense, tropical rainforests

USDA Hardiness Zone: 10-12

Suggested Vivarium/ Animal Terrarium Use:

Care Notes: Scindapsus pictus is toxic to both humans and pets as all parts of the plant contain calcium oxalate crystals. We deem this plant safe for use with the above animals, but the more risk-averse may wish to avoid it. For more information please visit the ASPCA list of Toxic and Non-Toxic Plants.

Since it can be sometimes sensitive to soggy soil, it is imperative to have good drainage in your vivarium to ensure the long-term health of this plant.

Shipping Notes: Generous LIVE ARRIVAL GUARANTEE offered.

As good practice, Josh's Frogs recommends washing all plants thoroughly, removing as much soil as possible with dechlorinated water before placing them in their final home. Live plants may vary in color, size, and appearance.

ALL PLANTS ARE SHIPPED IN POTS WITH SOIL OR OTHER MEDIA UNLESS IT IS DEEMED NECESSARY TO SHIP BARE ROOT.

Standard pot sizes for Josh's Frogs plants typically range from 1.25-3.5 inches.

Survived a winter’s delivery

Reviewed on January 4, 2025.

I ordered 3 plants for my Pac-Man frog’s tank; bromeliad, baby tears, and this satin pothos plant. Of the 3, this plant was a little wilted for wear but knowing that it traveled all the way to Colorado in the month of January, I’d say it looks good and I’m sure it will perk up in a few days. Will buy again!
