Alocasia 'Regal Shields' is commonly known as an Elephant Ear, and is often kept at a houseplant. Alocasia 'Regal Shields' makes a great plant for a vivarium, as long as it is kept pruned, as leaves can get quite large. It is a cross of A. odora with A. reginula "Black Velvet".

Alocasia 'Regal Shields' can get about 24" tall, with large leaves.

Alocasia 'Regal Shields' has moderate light needs. Intense light may easily burn or discolor leaves, while dim light will result in poor plant growth. Alocasia 'Regal Shields' does have moderate watering needs. Alocasia 'Regal Shields' craves moisture, but saturated soil should be avoided. Alocasia 'Regal Shields' grows from bulbs, and will form a clump of plants over time. Alocasia 'Regal Shields' makes a great focal point in a vivarium with it's striking leaves and unusual shape. Alocasia 'Regal Shields' also makes a great calling and egg laying site for poison dart frogs.
